At the Institute for Mechanics of Materials and Structures problems within the field of the theory of solid and deformable bodies are treated. For that purpose analytical and numerical techniques (finite element method, boundary element method, and hybrid techniques) as well as experimental methods for deformation analysis are used. Main research focus:

  • Theory: strength of materials, plates & shells
  • Numerical methods: finite element method, boundary element technique
  • Material characterization: reinforced concrete, shotcrete, soil, wood, asphalt, rubber; material modeling on basis of macromechanics and continuum micromechanics
  • Biomechanics: bone, hard and soft tissues
